Our day started in Sioux Falls. We stopped for gas before heading toward the interstate. This beautiful fountain was across the street. It was absolutely gorgeous! A great way to start the day. The first part of the day was rather cloudy, but the scenery was still good. Check out a couple of our photos snapped from the vehicle as we made our way west. Our plan was to make it to Devil's Tower by early afternoon and then enjoy a nice dinner.
The eastern half of South Dakota is rather flat and mainly farmland. I took lots of photos of old barns along the way because they fascinate me. Believe it or not, I would love to travel the country one day just photographing old barns and sharing their histories and stories in a book. I'm posting just one of them here as a teaser. Our country is filled with beautiful (and some not so beautiful) old barns.
About halfway through the state, you'll find the Lewis and Clark Visitor's Center. It provides the most beautiful view of the Missouri River you will ever find. Enjoy the photos below. Unfortunately, they don't do this beauty justice since it was so overcast today. If you ever get the chance to visit in person, I highly recommend it. It will not disappoint.
There are lots more photos of our travels today to come. All in all, we traveled 553 miles today and will arrive late tomorrow at our home base for the next seven days. I can't wait!
